Snowboarding was introduced to the at the 1998 Nagano Olympics with halfpipe and individual giant slalom being the inaugural competitions. At the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics, Parallel giant slalom replaced the Individual slalom and snowboard cross was introduced at the 2006 Torino Olympics. In the short history of Olympic snowboarding, the United States leads all nations with 14 medals, Switzerland is second with eight and France has five.
